The Columbiana Public Library is hosting the AARP Tax Aide program this year!
This free service is available by AARP and is open to anyone. However, they are not able to process taxes for rentals, businesses, farms, and ministers.
Appointments are 45 minutes long and are available on Wednesdays from 9 AM to 1 PM, starting February 11th and ending April 8th. Appointments must be scheduled in advance by clicking the appointment scheduling button below or by calling the library at 330-482-5509. After scheduling your appointment, please stop by the library to pick up an intake form to complete before your appointment.
Information to Bring to Your Appointment:
Identification
- Previous year’s tax return
- Social Security cards and/or ITIN notices or cards
- Government-issued photo ID for each taxpayer
- Checking account or savings account number and routing number for direct deposit for any refunds (make sure to bring a voided check with you)
- Identity Protection PIN for each individual, if applicable
- Any correspondence from the IRS
Income
- W2 from each employer
- 1099-G form for unemployed compensation or state/local tax refunds
- SSA-1099 form showing the total Social Security benefits paid to you for the year, or RRB-1099, Tier 1 Railroad Retirement benefits form
- 1099 forms: 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, plus documentation showing the original purchase prices if you sold stocks or other assets.
- 1099-R form
- 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K or other 1099 Forms
- Information about any other income of any form including cash or other than cash
Payments
- Records of any federal and/or state and/or local income tax paid if not shown on income documents
Deductions
- 1098 form showing home mortgage interest
- A summary of medical, dental, and vision expenses including doctor and hospital bills and medical insurance premiums, prescription medicines, assisted living services, long-term insurance and bills for medical-related home improvements such as ramps and railings for people with disabilities.
- Summary of cash and noncash contributions to charity
- Property tax bills paid during the year
- Loan and vehicle details for new vehicles financed after 2024
Health Insurance
- 1095-A forms if you purchased insurance through Marketpace (Exchange)
Credits/Adjustments
- Dependent care provider information – name, address, telephone number, and employer ID or SSN and amount paid to provider.
- 1098-T form for education expenses plus statement of account from the educational institution showing tuition and fees actually paid and scholarships, grants, etc. received.
- 1098-E form for student loan interest
Your Responsibilities:
- Treat the Tax-Aide volunteers with courtesy and respect. No harrassment, bullying, or abusive language or threats
- Aggressive behavior will result in denial of service and/or removal from site.
- Silence your phone and other electronic devices.
- Make an appointment for each tax year needing completed and make sure you have correct tax papers.
- Be patient and allow the tax-aide volunteer to prepare a timely accurate tax return.
- Time to depend will depend on the complexity of the tax return.
- Ask questions before signing consent form – know why you owe or are getting money back
- You are responsible for your tax return.
- It is not our fault if you owe.
