The library is hiring a Young Adult Services & Programming Manager!

NATURE OF WORK

Part-time position. Under the supervision of the Director, plans, coordinates, and maintains the Library’s Young Adult services in accordance with Library policy and procedures.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

  1. Plans, schedules, & publicizes activities for young adults based on their needs and interests
  2. Manages the budget for the Young Adult section of the library
  3. Assists the Youth Services Manager with programs and preparation as needed
  4. Coordinates activities with local schools to maximize interest in programs and the love of reading to students
  5. Compiles data and prepares reports on activities and programs
  6. Knowledge of pop culture and technology trends for teens
  7. Provides input into books, video games, and video collections, and maintains the teen room
  8. Maintains a knowledge of reference services and assists patrons in their use
  9. Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops
  10. Serves as the designated person in charge, being responsible for building security, staff, and reference work when requested.
  11. Performs circulation desk functions as needed
  12. Keeps the Director informed of activities and recommends changes pertaining to the Young Adult section
  13. Performs other library duties as requested

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Comprehensive understanding of youth services programs, life skills for teens, literature, and current technology trends
  2. Knowledge of library equipment and automation system, or ability to learn
  3. Ability to recognize the needs of library patrons and direct them to the appropriate resource
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with staff and patrons
  5. Good judgment in making decisions in conformance with Library policies and procedures
  6. Ability to push and pull carts with books, ability to bend and lift books, and reach high or low shelves when shelving books

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited institution preferred. Public library experience preferred. Experience working with young adults required.
